European Mountain Ash, also known as Rowan Tree and Mountain-ash (Sorbus Aucuparia) is a tree in the Rose Famiy (Rosaceae). It’s native to Europe and Asia, blooms Mar-May and grows 15-50 ft. It’s a common weedy tree in forests and savannas; tolerates moist to dry soils and partial shade to full sun exposure.
European Mountain Ash is used as an ornamental tree and it’s common to see it in front lawns. A look-alike is American Mountain Ash (Sorbus Americana) which is native to the eastern states of the U.S.A. and Canada. European Mountain Ash is also found in the same habitat and location as American Mountain Ash, proper identification is needed before attempting control.
