Arctic Sweet Coltsfoot, also known as Arctic Butterbur (Petasites Frigidus) is a perennial forb in the Aster Family (Asteraceae). It’s native to northern North America and northern Eurasia, blooms Apr-Jul and grows 1-1.5 ft. It’s commonly found near streams in undisturbed forests; likes moist soils and full shade to partial sun exposure.
There are debatable varieties of Petasites Frigidus, they vary in leaf sizes and shapes. The most common in the Pacific Northwest is Palmate Coltsfoot or Western Coltsfoot (Petasites Frigidus var Palmatus) sometimes called (Petasites Palmatus)
