Wild Strawberry or Common Strawberry (Fragaria Virginiana) is a perennial forb in the Rose Family (Rosaceae). It’s native to North America. Blooms Apr-Jun and grows 0.5 ft. Commonly found in forests, savannas, wet prairies and meadows. Tolerates moist to dry soils and full shade to full sun exposure.
Wild Strawberry was hybridized with Beach Strawberry (Fragaria Chiloensis) to create the well known Garden Strawberry (Fragaria x Ananassa). Small and sour berries from this plant are a food source for wildlife.
